How to clone your voice for AI video narration

By AI Nerdy · Updated · 4 min read

Instant voice cloning in AI Nerdy creates a reusable voice from a short recording of one speaker. It is available on Creator, Studio and Agency. You can save the clone in Voice Lab, test how it reads and select it for supported narration flows. Clone creation is free within your plan’s limits; generating audio uses Nerdium.

What recording should you use for an instant voice clone?

Record one person speaking clearly in a quiet room. Use your normal narration voice rather than a whisper, shout or exaggerated impression. A short passage with complete sentences is more useful than a single word.

Listen to the sample before uploading it. If a fan, soundtrack or another speaker is clearly audible, make a cleaner recording. A sample with clipped words or heavy echo can produce a less useful clone even if the upload is accepted. Use the recording length and file limits shown in the cloning workspace.

Clone your own voice, or a voice you have permission to use. The consent step is part of creating the clone; do not treat an available recording as permission to impersonate its speaker.

How do you create a voice clone in Voice Lab?

The voice catalogue and your personal voices share one workspace, so you can compare a clone with the voices you already use.

  1. Open Voice Lab → Clone a voice and choose Instant voice cloning.
  2. Record a sample or upload a suitable recording. Give the voice a name you will recognize later.
  3. Confirm that you have permission to use the voice, then create the clone.
  4. Open My voices to find the saved clone alongside your favourite voices.
  5. Use Test voice and listen before selecting it for a full video or workflow.

How can you check whether a cloned voice works?

Start with the Test voice action on the saved clone. The button shows the preview price before you request it. A playable result confirms that the saved voice can generate audio, but you still need to judge its sound.

Listen for recognisable tone, clear words and unnatural pauses. Then try a short narration containing the kind of names, numbers and sentences you actually publish. A voice that sounds good on a simple sample may need different phrasing for a technical script.

If a preview fails, read the error before retrying. Failed paid previews are refunded. If the clone keeps failing, delete the unusable clone to release its slot, then recreate it from a clean recording. Verify the replacement before using it for a long project.

Where can you use a saved cloned voice?

Choose the saved clone in a supported voice picker when creating narration or configuring a workflow. Keep the script short for your first test and check the generated audio and finished captions before producing a batch.

My voices is your place to review saved clones and favourite catalogue voices. A favourite is a shortcut to a voice in the library; a clone is a voice created from a permitted recording. They are different ways to find the voice you want to use.

Is instant voice cloning free, and is professional cloning available?

Instant cloning is available on Creator, Studio and Agency. Creating a clone costs no Nerdium within your plan’s clone allowance. Narration uses Nerdium, and a preview shows its price before you run it. Check the current pricing page for how many clones your plan can save.

Professional voice cloning is marked Coming soon in AI Nerdy and cannot currently be selected for creation. Use the available Instant option rather than planning a project around a feature that has not launched.
